Floating joint decouples thermal expansion from the hub:

•The high-carbon grey-iron friction ring (GG15/GG20HC) and the aluminium hat are joined by stainless-steel rivets in a floating arrangement. The ring is free to expand radially with heat, independent of the hub-bound hat — this is the structural reason a two-piece disc stays flat under repeated high thermal load, unlike a one-piece disc that folds expansion into the hat-and-face geometry.
